I had a blast leading this project of project feature videos for the brands two hero technical products. The team included a videographer/editor, graphic designer, and marketing assistant.
We set out to create 1:00 minute videos that communicated the unique value proposition and key product features in a way that was easy to digest, interesting for the viewer, fit the brand voice, and communicated a technically superior product.
The pacing of the videos was a focus as often product tech videos on the market can feel long and slow, filled with drawn out jargon filled explanations - this works well with a highly engaged audience, but for videos used as mainly social media ads I needed to work with a reduced viewer attention span. My approach was to: - "Change the scenery" multiple times to keep the information feeling fresh. - Design a graphic elements to increase movement to keep the eye interested, be aesthetically pleasing, and to communicate values intuitively. - Stick to the main headlines. The viewer might only remember 2 or 3 things so focus on what we want those to be - and don't get stuck on other topics. Interviews with the real product designers used as voice over gave the viewer a look behind the scenes to build trust. A quick product review clip from a notable local fisherman adds relatability and reliability further. For the non-verbal communication, fast paced, design elements took inspiration from design sketches and blueprints to align with the designer interviews and communicate a feeling of technology and performance. An industrial warehouse motif seen in the interview backgrounds, product studio shots, and was even tied in to the field imagery (product hung on a rack surrounded by harsh wind, rain and rough seas). This communicated ideas of purpose built design, engineered for toughness, and transitions the design process to the performance in the wild.
